Trouble Brewing in South Kolkata

The plot thickens in South Kolkata! The Life Insurance Corporation of India (LICI) has officially lodged a police complaint against the infamous 'Suruchi Sangha' club. The club, which is run by former Bengal Minister Aroop Biswas and his brother Swarup, is now under the scanner for allegedly forcibly occupying 21 cottahs of land belonging to the CPSU.

The Fallout

This move comes shortly after a chaotic week for the club's leadership. Swarup Biswas was arrested on Thursday night on serious charges, including:

  • Extortion
  • Criminal intimidation
  • Molestation
  • Violations under the Arms Act

He is currently serving a 14-day stint in police custody.

Locals Take Charge

Things took a dramatic turn on Friday when frustrated locals broke the locks at the club premises. During the ransacking, they discovered that the club—known for its lavish Durga Puja budget—was decked out like a five-star hotel. Recovered items included a large bed and government-supplied water bottles, further fueling allegations of misuse of property.
